Why Should I Acid Wash My Pool? |
The lack of proper and regular pool maintenance will cause your pool water to look cloudy and develop algae if chlorine levels are too low. If you don't add chlorine or remove the algae quickly, it could stain the porous plaster of the pool. Depending on the type of algae (yellow, black, or green) it could get stuck deep inside the plaster or pebble tec and continue to bloom. In this case, acid washing your pool could be appropriate and would eliminate the algae. On the other hand, there are some pools that over time will develop stains or discolored surfaces. These pools along with algae-filled pools can benefit from being drained, acid-washed, and refilled. |
How Often Should I Acid Wash My Pool? |
A lot of swimming pool owners believe that acid washing a swimming pool should happen every time you drain your swimming pool due to high calcium and other hardness minerals in your swimming pool. This is definitely not the case and acid washing should only occur when absolutely necessary. You should acid wash your plaster pool every 5 years and your Pebble Tec pool every 3-5 years. Just remember, acid washing should never be performed regularly on a plaster pool because it could shorten the lifespan of your plaster by striping away too many layers. |
Our Acid Washing Process1. We will completely drain your swimming pool - as your pool drains, we will make sure to clean any rubbish or debris.
2. Once the water is drained from the pool, we then apply the muriatic acid and water mix directly on the stained pool walls. (section by section).
3. We let the acid/water mix stay for a certain amount of time and then scrub the walls to remove the stains and debris from each section.
4. After the pool walls have been scrubbed and the stains removed, we then rinse the pool walls with water to remove the acid.
5. After rinsing, we continue to acid wash the remaining sections until your pool is cleaned thoroughly.
6. We neutralize the remaining acid/water mix with soda ash and remove it from the pool with a pump.
7. The last step is rinsing thoroughly and re-filling the pool water. |
