What causes a green pool?

The number one cause for green pool is algae. Algae will start grow in your swimming pool if there is lack of sanitizing agents in the water. Chlorine is by far the most popular and most effective sanitizer that's being used in swimming pools today.
If you have a green pool, you most likely have little or no chlorine in your water. Maintaining a proper chlorine level is the key to unlocking a crystal clear pool.

How to clean a green pool

Here at AQUAURE POOLS we have adopted the SLAM (shock, level, and maintain) method for cleaning your green pool. What that means is that we will bring your chlorine up to "shock" level and maintain the pool at shock level until the algae is killed off. 
  • The very first thing our green pool expert will do is to clear your pool of debris - organic material is a consumer of chlorine and the more we can remove early on, the less chlorine we will need to use later.
  • The next step is to test and treat your pool water . We will first start out by testing your pH, because once we start to SLAM the pool with chlorine your pH reading won't be accurate. You pH level should be between 7.5-7.8
  • Next, we will test the cyanuric acid in your pool also known as cya or stabilizer. 30-60ppm cya is an ideal ring for non saltwater pools. For saltwater pools, 70-80ppm is the recommended range. 
  • Once your CoA is at proper level, we will shock the pool. It is extremely important to maintain the required shock level to ensure the algae will not bounce back if free chlorine levels drop. We recommend testing free chlorine every couple hours at the start of the SLAM process and continue adding the appropriate amount of chlorine to maintain shock level. As algae are killed off, the chlorine will start to be consumed more slowly and won't need to be checked as often.
There is no shortcuts to getting rid of algae, the SLAM process needs patience and you cannot achieve results in a single day. After the algae are killed, it's very likely you end up with cloudy pool water after the shock effect. Our green pool expert will vacuum the pool to remove the dead algae and also program the pool pump and filter to operate the proper amount of time until all the algae are removed.
